Zakh-shko-da-wa / coming out of the plain / Nicholas Plain [fl. 1827], Black River [west side of St. Clair River near Port Huron, Michigan] Ojibwa chief in 1827; he was the son of Chief Mesquahewegezhigk [Red Sky], the grandson of Chief Annamakance, and the great-grandson of Chief Kioscance; he moved to the Canadian side to avoid being moved by the US government to the western States sometime around 1827; he was married to Ann, Betsy and Jemima Jacobs [grand-daughter of Chief Quakegwon]; father of James Plain and Nicholas Plain Junior, the last hereditary chief of the Sarnia Ojibwa community in 1870 (Goodspeed: 27; Plain: 4-5, 19-20).
