A development property goes through Ontario's archaeological conservation process.

1a – A developer identifies a parcel of land for future construction plans.

1b – A consideration of physical and historic landscape features demonstrates the archaeological potential of the subject property (known sites, proximity to water, historic transportation route).

1c – The resulting assessment locates four sites, two of which are isolated findspots (open circles), and two of which require mitigation of development impacts.

1d – Development proceeds after excavating one site, and preserving the other in a park (long term protection provisions are incorporated on title).
